The Fisherwoman waves goodbye to the departing fishermen and welcomes them upon their return |

Svolvaer lies on the shore of Høla, "The Hole." It is an important fishing area for the Lofoten fishery

Oddvær

A few white-tailed eagles feel at home on the rocks of Oddvær. An estimated two thousand live across Norway

Especially in bad weather they spend up to 90% of their time sitting motionless on the rocks

White-tailed eagle (juvenile)

The white-tailed eagle gets its name from its wedge-shaped white tail

The white-tailed eagle is the largest eagle in Europe and the fourth largest in the world

White-tailed eagles are territorial. Their territory can span 50 to 400 km²

They hunt fish, which they scoop up in a dive

White-tailed eagles also hunt birds, but given their relatively low speed they need an element of surprise, or a tactical advantage such as bright sunlight at their back or the ability to hide

Swift, agile Arctic terns don't hesitate to chase away a clumsy white-tailed eagle

Here and there trolls appear between the rocks

The Trollfjord originated from a dispute over pastureland between the trolls Vågakallen and Hinnøygubben. At some point, Hinnøygubben fell and smashed a crack in the mountain ridge with his axe. This is how the Trollfjord was formed. Trolls have felt at home here ever since

MV Seabourn Sojourn (2010) in Tromsø harbour

The Tromsø Bridge (1960) connects the island of Tromsøya in the Tromsø Sundet to the mainland. It is 1,036 m long and has 58 spans. The maximum vertical clearance is 38 m

Tromsdalen is located on the mainland across the Tromsøsundet and is part of the city of Tromsø. The main attraction is Ishavskatedralen, the Arctic Cathedral (1965)
Strictly speaking, the Arctic Cathedral is a church, because Tromsø Cathedral is located in the city centre |
|
The design of the Arctic Cathedral symbolises the icebergs, the Northern Lights and the polar nights |
|
|
|
The roof consists of reinforced lightweight concrete slabs clad with pearl grey aluminium plates
The stained glass window behind the altar is 28 m high and has an area of 140 m² |
|
It represents the second coming of Christ |
